Burkina Faso
Day 1:
- Bamako Arrive in Bamako in a regular flight with Delta,
Sabena or Swissair, transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: - Bamako - Segou Tour around the capital, viewing of the most
representative colonial buildings and popular markets which characterize West
Africa. Visit to the ethnic museum where the small group will receive an
overview of Mali´s History and Art by a prominent university professor. Walk to
the main market and lunch. Afternnoon departure to Segou, check –in the hotel
and city tour of the city, which colonial charming atmosphere and architecture
remains evident.
Day 3: - Segou - Dogon Country Morning departure to the Bandiagara cliffs,
crossing a Sahel landscape typified by enormous baobab trees and prickly bushes.
Stop to admire the typical Sudanese mosque of San. Late afternoon arrival to our
base for check – in. Walk around the village, refreshment with a presentation
about the Dogon culture and their habitat. Strar watching
Day 4: - Dogon Country - Mopti After typical Dogon breakfast, walk through
a village on the plateau and enjoyment of a breathtaking panoramic view from the
top. Trek down the cliff in a unique, risk free but exciting experience.
Promenade along various Dogon villages at the base of the cliff. Lunch time
during which we will have the opportunity to get in touch with the villagers,
admire their ability of creating masks, artistic door, ritual artifacts and
other handicrafts. Departure to Mopti with scheduled arrival at late evening and
glance of the city.
Day 5: - Mopti - Djenne - Mopti Early morning departure to visit one of
Mali´s most beautiful cities and its painteresque, world famous flea market,
where the crowd and the goods compose a marvelous mosaic of colors and ethnias.
Bargaining in an extraordinary stage, with the beautiful Sudanese style mosque
as overwhelming background. Afternoon return for an evening of independent
leisure
Day 6: - Mopti - Timbuctu Early morning departure to the airport for the
morning domestic Air Mali flight to Timbuktu. It will offer us an excellent
bird´s view over the Niger´s inner delta and the flora transformation into
desert ground. After landing in the Tuareg city, considered as the door of teh
Sahara desert, we will check – in the hotel. Later, beginning of the city tour,
including architectural jewels and the homes where the most prominent explorers
once lived. Lunch and late afternoon camel ride to the outskirts of the city,
where we will enjoy a tea in a camp of the “ blue men of the desert “. Return to
the hotel for relax and dinner
Day 7: - Timbuctu - Mopti Early morning check – out to the airport for the
morning flight to Mopti. Hotel check – in is scheduled before noon. Walk along
the boulevard by the river bank, visit to the market and the busy, crowded
harbor, the most important in the upper Niger. Break for a refreshment at the
Bozo Bar with a privileged view over both the port and the river. Discovering of
the mosque and artisans market. Returning to the hotel for a rest, prior to an
afternoon trip on the river with a Bambara´s traditional- yet equipped with
modern engine, services – pinnace served by an experienced team of pilot and
guide. We will enjoy impressive views of life on and around the river, will
visit one of the many small villages by the river and will enjoy one of the most
overwhelming sensations in West Africa: a sunset in the Niger. Return to the
hotel for a late evening and dinner.
Day 8: - Mopti - Bobo ( Burkina Fasso).Early morning departure for a ride
on our comfortable 4WD with AC to reach Bobo after crossing the border between
both countries. Arrival to Bobo, musical capital of West Africa and well know
for the huge mango trees on the sidewalks of their streets. Check – in at our
hotel.
Day 9: - Bobo - Banfora During the morning we will visit the colorful
local market, Faraka – the old quarter -, the Dioulasoba mosque and the artisans
section. Early lunch in Bobo and departure to the heavenly Banfora region,
including visits to the Karfiguela waterfalls, lake Tengrela and the mysterious,
exceptionally puzzling and beautiful Sindou rock formations, crafted by wind
erosion. Check – in the hotel
Day 10: - Banfora - Lobi Country - Banfora Early morning departure to the
Lobi region, travelling in our 4WD, through country roads before discovering the
estraordinary fortress-like Lobi houses, mostly standing alone rather than in
villages. Ligth lunch and walk around houses and visit of one of them. We will
learn about Lobi animist world and appreciate their art and crafts. Returns to
the hotel in Banfora.
Day 11: - Banfora - Sikasso Morning departure to the Senufo region,
through dusty, unpaved country roads. Arrival scheduled around noon, just in
time for lunch. Then, visit to the interesting Sikasso market. Afternoon of free
leisure, shopping and pre-packing activities.
Day 12: - Sikasso - Bamako - Departure Morning departure to Mali´s
capital, where we will arrive in the early afternoon for lunch time. Afternoon
hours for relaxing, shopping, pictures and postcard writing. Evening transfer to
the airport where the Bambara African Tours staff will efficiently take care of
all bureaucartic paperwork, customs and airline check – in for the night flight.
